SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 – The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will be taking action against 58 factories operating without valid business licences at the Meranti Utama Industrial Park in Puchong, following an earlier inventory exercise this year.

The Star reported MPSepang deputy president Muhamad Shah Osmin as saying that the factories were given the opportunity to apply for licenses, but the grace period has now expired.

“MPSepang will begin issuing notices to compel compliance and licensing. The purpose of these licences is not only to generate revenue for the council but, more importantly, to regulate the factories’ operations.

“We must ensure that all factories meet the requirements of the relevant agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the Environment Department and utility providers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the council has also stepped up its vehicle-towing operations between January and August this year.

“The operations, which targeted cars that obstructed traffic or posed safety risks, were carried out between January and August this year,” Shah said.

During that period, 1990 vehicles were towed:1797 in Cyberjaya, 147 in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, and 46 in Dengkil.

He added that the council had collected RM437,800 in towing fees and RM159,200 in related fines, for a total of RM597,000. The opening of MPSepang’s third vehicle depot in Dengkil earlier this year had increased enforcement efforts.

“The other depots are located in Cyberjaya and Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi,” Shah said.

He noted that each depot can accommodate 15 to 20 vehicles, yet operations remain efficient due to the high turnover rate.
