SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — In an effort to foster love and responsibility towards pets, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Selangor celebrated World Animal Day 2025 at its Ampang Jaya centre yesterday.

The annual event, themed “Be Kind to All Kinds,” was organised in collaboration with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and graced by the presence of Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin.

Her Royal Highness, who is also the Royal Patron of the “Stray Free Selangor (SFS): The Humane and Compassionate Way” campaign, was received by MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari and SPCA Selangor chairman Christine Chin.

Meanwhile, in her speech, Christine described the World Animal Day celebration as a meaningful movement rather than just a ceremonial event.

She said the programme aims to recognise the important role animals play in human life while renewing commitment to improving animal care and welfare standards across Malaysia.

“We are truly honoured by the presence of Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, who has consistently shown support and compassion towards animals in Selangor, inspiring us to continue our work.

“We are also proud of MPAJ’s initiative to establish a dedicated cat shelter — a space for treating, neutering, and rehoming stray cats,” she said.

The event also featured a petting zoo with friendly animals, a pet adoption drive, and an appreciation ceremony for participating agencies.
