KARACHI/KABUL, Oct 15 — Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire after clashes along their shared border, according to official statements from both sides.
Anadolu Ajansi reported a Pakistani Foreign Ministry statement as saying that the ceasefire took effect at 6pm (1300 GMT) today.
The two sides would “sincerely” try to resolve this “complicated but solvable” issue through constructive negotiations.
The Afghan interim administration's spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed that Kabul had reached a ceasefire with Islamabad.
He said that Kabul had “directed all its forces to respect the ceasefire … unless any aggression takes place.”
This is the second ceasefire since the weekend, after the two sides clashed on Saturday (October 11) night but halted hostilities following mediation by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
