SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The PJ Watch initiative, which aims to tackle illegal waste dumping in Petaling Jaya, has proven successful and will be continued.
Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the programme, which is implemented through closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring and patrols by enforcement officers in high-risk areas, has identified 71 cases as of September.
They involve 40 individuals, 28 vehicles, and three company premises.
“In addition, 348 compounds were issued under the Refuse Collection, Disposal, and Removal By-Laws 2007, with 120 arrests made, involving 62 individuals, 12 vehicles, and 46 companies,” he said during the Petaling Jaya City Council’s full board meeting yesterday.
Zahari added that monitoring will continue in several hotspot areas, including Section 17, Kota Damansara, and PJU 1A.
He noted that PJ Watch is an important initiative to ensure the city remains clean and free of pollution.
Zahari urged the public to provide information on illegal dumping activities to ensure prompt action can be taken by the authorities.
