KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — The Selangor Selection lifted the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup (TSSC) for their fourth consecutive time after defeating Singapore Selection 2-1 at the Merdeka Stadium here last night.
The victory saw the Red Giants extend their record to 12 titles since the TSSC was first introduced in 2001.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half and were trading attacks. Selangor’s opening goal came in the 20th minute through a brilliant cross by Faisal Halim, which was met by Harry Danish, beating goalkeeper Hassan Abdullah Sunny.
Selangor continued to launch dangerous attacks, but Christophe Gamel’s men were denied before Singapore equalised through Takumi Yokohata in the 40th minute.
Singapore looked more aggressive in the second half, but Selangor’s defence was up to it.
The Red Giants eventually regained the lead through substitute Chrigor Moraes, who converted a penalty in injury time to seal the championship.
Meanwhile, Selangor Veterans failed to defend their title after losing 3-4 to Singapore in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj officiated the event and presented the trophy to the winners.
