Pakistan thanks Malaysia for providing flood aid

NEW DELHI, Sept 26 — Islamabad has thanked Malaysia for offering aid following the massive floods that the country has suffered in this monsoon season.

"Deeply appreciate the government and people of Malaysia for the generous gesture of extending timely support to Pakistan's ongoing flood relief efforts.

"Such climate-induced recurring disasters continue to underscore the urgent need for collective global action on climate change," its Foreign Affairs Ministry said on social media.

Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are also participating in Pakistan's flood-relief efforts.

Yesterday, Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (Mapim) representatives shared details of their relief work with the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad's counsellor Mohd Syafik Firdaus.

Syafik expressed hope that more Malaysian NGOs would come forward to provide humanitarian assistance to the flood-affected communities in Pakistan.

The floods caused by heavy rains have affected more than five million people in Pakistan, destroyed 4,100 villages, and claimed over 1,000 lives, according to official figures.
