MACC tracing Muhyiddin's son-in-law believed to be hiding in Middle East

PETALING JAYA, Sept 10 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively seeking information on the whereabouts of businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is believed to be residing in the Middle East.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that efforts are ongoing to determine his exact location, with several actions already taken as of yesterday.

The commission has also submitted a request to the Home Ministry (KDN) to cancel Adlan’s passport to facilitate investigations into alleged corruption and misappropriation linked to a ministry project.

“I heard that he is in a Middle Eastern country. I cannot reveal the name of the country, but it is one that we do not have an extradition treaty with, but we are trying to negotiate with the country on how we can bring him back to Malaysia," he said.

Azam was speaking to the press after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MACC and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) today.

Prior to this, it was reported that the MACC was tracking down two local men to assist in investigations into the misappropriation of a project involving the registration, recruitment, and biometric storage of foreign workers under a government ministry.

They are identified as Adlan and lawyer Mansoor Saat, both of whom reportedly left Malaysia on May 17 and May 21, 2023, respectively.

Azam added that the MACC is also working with Interpol and other enforcement agencies to determine Adlan’s precise location.

Regarding the newly signed MOU with Angkasa, he said the agreement aims to strengthen institutional integrity and promote cooperation in implementing various programs focused on governance and ethics within the cooperative sector.
