SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — Selangor is committed to restoring heritage buildings owned by the state government, especially ones around Dataran Merdeka, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the joint initiative with Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, aims to conserve heritage and revive the city’s identity and historic value.

“I started the day with a trip to ThinkCity at Wisma Maran. ThinkCity was established in 2009 by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, which focuses on sustainable urban development based on the (United Nations) Sustainable Development Goals.

“The focus of this trip was on efforts to restore heritage buildings owned by the Selangor government around Dataran Merdeka, including the Industrial Court and Music Museum,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin added that among the agendas discussed was the Shah Alam Sponge Cities programme, which emphases sustainable water management by recycling rainwater and protecting catchment areas.

He also said that he brought up the Kita-untuk-Kita Selangor programme, which has significantly impacted residents of the Lembah Subang 1 People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Kampung Baru Hicom PPR.

“We also touched on the Warisan KL programme, with a focus on conserving and restoring historic features in the nation’s capital, especially those owned by the (Selangor) government.

“God willing, Selangor will remain committed to implementing initiatives and continuous efforts for the people’s well-being and sustainable development,” Amirudin said.
