SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Selangor has identified 1,100 telecommunications towers for whitelisting so as to prevent network disruptions for users.
State executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said around 800 of those towers were found to be ownerless or built on illegal land over 10 years ago.
“The state government is looking to tear down these ownerless and illegal telecommunications towers, and will issue teardown notices in 30 days.
“This is important for Selangor’s future as a smart state. Network disruptions shouldn’t happen as it would look bad for the state government,” he said.
Fahmi was met after attending an engagement session with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and people’s representatives at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly operations room here today.
The programme, which drew 50 participants, aimed to find holistic solutions, introduce a streamlined official complaints channel, and boost cooperation between the MCMC and people’s representative offices.
“This engagement session gives us an opportunity to better understand several of the MCMC’s important initiatives, including the Safe Internet campaign.
“I hope (participants) benefit fully from this initiative, and that those present can be information ambassadors in their respective communities and share the knowledge they gained here,” Fahmi said.
