SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The Selangor government today held an engagement session with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to discuss water regulatory issues in the state.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the engagement session, jointly attended by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), was held in conjunction with the visit of SPAN chairman Datuk Abdul Kadir Mohd Din to his office today.
He said the talks, which took place before the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session, focused on efforts to improve water quality and address the supply crisis in Selangor.
“This is all to ensure more efficient and quality services to the people through the application of technology in water management,” he said in a Facebook post.
Amirudin said he was also given an explanation on operational and regulatory aspects that needed to be improved.
He said the meeting with SPAN and Air Selangor also opened up space for cooperation in innovation, training, consumer education as well as coordination with national agendas such as AIR 2040 including a focus on energy efficiency, green agenda and capacity development.
“Hopefully, this strategic collaboration will have a positive impact on the water supply system in Selangor, to ensure the people’s well-being and future sustainability,” he said.
Yesterday, SPAN in a statement announced it had received applications from water service operators in 10 states to review their respective water supply tariffs.
According to SPAN, as of June 30, the applications received were from operators in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor and Selangor.
The commission said the applications are being reviewed and have not been finalised.
