Exco: No compromise in handling illegal waste at Sg Tangkas

By Dewi Abdul Rahman

SHAH ALAM, July 6 — Those involved in the illegal dumping and burning of rubbish at Sungai Tangkas, Kajang, are urged to cease such activities or face stern action immediately.

State executive councillor for local government, tourism, and New Village development Dato' Ng Suee Lim said the state government will not tolerate any form of illegal pollution that endangers residents and the environment.

“The Sungai Tangkas area has indeed been identified as an active illegal dumping site, believed to be operated by certain syndicates. We take this matter seriously as it causes pollution and fires, which greatly inconvenience residents.

“The state government will take the harshest action, including seizing vehicles used for illegal dumping,” he told Media Selangor.

Ng added that the local authorities have been instructed to visit the site for inspection and take follow-up action. Continuous monitoring will also be carried out to prevent recurrence.

The state government is also reviewing proposals to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at several hotspots to detect and apprehend those involved.

“This rubbish syndicate issue has yet to be fully resolved. The open burning taking place is believed to be the result of syndicates attempting to dispose of waste illegally,” he said.

Previously, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan exposed the longstanding issue of illegal disposal sites and open burning in the Sungai Tangkas area.

He had called for a comprehensive solution to be implemented urgently to address the issue fully, rather than relying solely on temporary measures.

Syahredzan also proposed installing CCTV to assist in monitoring and enforcement against irresponsible parties.
