SHAH ALAM, May 6 — Despite being a rapidly developing state, Selangor has retained 31.7 per cent of its land area as permanent forest reserves.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state continues to demonstrate that economic growth, infrastructural advancement, and forest conservation can progress in tandem.

“Through strong policy foundations and the support of the state government and royal leadership, we have preserved 31.7 per cent of the state's land as permanent forest reserves.

“With the proclamation of 108,000 hectares of forest as the Royal Selangor Heritage Forest by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, this initiative reflects a long-term vision to conserve the environment while embracing progress,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Yesterday, Amirudin attended the premiere screening of the documentary 'Unveiling the Majesty: The Royal Selangor Heritage Forest' at the Selangor Week exhibition held at the Malaysia Pavilion during Expo 2025 Osaka in Kansai, Japan.

He said the documentary is a tribute to the legacy of Selangor’s rainforests and its unwavering commitment to sustainable development.

“This documentary serves as a reminder that the true wealth of a state lies not only in its urban achievements but also in the natural treasures preserved for future generations.

“Congratulations to all involved in bringing this important story to life,” Amirudin said.

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj graced the Selangor Week exhibition at the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka yesterday.

The sovereign was accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

The week-long exhibition, themed 'Building a Resilient Future', showcases Selangor as a forward-looking, competitive state that is globally connected and driven by technology, culture, and the energy of its youth.

Previously, His Royal Highness proclaimed the Royal Selangor Heritage Forest to include 26 permanent forest reserves along the Central Forest Spine, stretching from Hulu Langat to Hulu Selangor.
