Over 150 Putra Heights blast victims get housing rent aid

KUALA LANGAT, April 29 — The Selangor government has provided three months’ rent aid to over 150 families affected by the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

State executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah said the RM6,000 (RM2,000 monthly) was distributed by the Selangor Housing and Property Board via direct bank transfers to recipients.

“Last Sunday, I said 70 affected families had received (the aid). However, based on updated data, the total has increased to over 150 families.

“The directive from Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is to ensure the aid is deposited directly into their accounts. A total of three months’ assistance, amounting to RM6,000, has been disbursed directly,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the groundbreaking for a modern crematorium in Kuala Langat, held at Quayside Mall here today.

On new homes for Putra Heights victims, Borhan said talks are ongoing and an announcement will be made by Amirudin soon.

“The reconstruction plan is still being discussed. The Menteri Besar will make the announcement as we need to assess the extent of damage, (such as) whether the houses are completely destroyed or only partially damaged.

“The Menteri Besar is currently in talks with the Housing and Local Government Ministry and other agencies,” he said.

Previously, Amirudin reportedly said 396 heads of households affected by the explosion in Putra Heights will receive six months’ rent aid (RM2,000 monthly).

The April 1 blast destroyed 81 homes, partially damaged another 81, and affected but did not cause fire damage to 57 homes.
