SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — The state government is seeking to expand the esports competition, the Selangor Future Cup, to all districts next year in order to elevate the sport.

Executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said schools in every district will be called upon to participate in order to find new talent.

The high number of participation for the inaugural Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) competition, held here over two days from Saturday, gave an indication of the popularity of esports.

“God willing, we will make the suggestion for schools in all nine districts to get involved in, and expand, esports,” he said.

Najwan was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Selangor Future Cup MLBB at Aeon Mall here last night.

He also called out to parents of youths who are good at esports to let their children pursue their interest.

“Previously, our society was rather sceptical about esports but I am appealing to parents to give their talented children a chance.

“If they are good, we will provide them with the right training and guidance, and they can go far,” he added.

Yesterday, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kota Kemuning emerged the champion of the Selangor Future Cup 2025, after beating SMK Saujana Utama, Kuala Selangor.

Some 64 schools took part in the event.
