SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has distributed over RM13 million in fidyah (payment for missed fasts) collections for 2023, benefiting 50,054 eligible recipients, said its chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
Of the total amount, RM4.45 million was allocated for the Mais Food Box Fidyah Distribution (AFM), while RM1.34 million was designated for Kitchen Agent AFM, which were distributed from January to December 2024.
During the same period, Mais also distributed RM2.37 million in Cash AFM and RM4.84 million in Student Pocket Money AFM," he told reporters following the launch of the 2025 Fidyah Awareness Month Campaign in Shah Alam today.
Aziz shared that Mais successfully collected RM12.9 million in fidyah in 2024 and expects to distribute RM12.4 million throughout this year.
Mais aims to increase its fidyah collection to RM16 million this year, in line with various planned initiatives, including the launch of this year’s Fidyah Awareness Campaign, which will run from today until February 28.
"The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and understanding among the Muslim community about settling fidyah fines, while also encouraging them to make up for missed fasts before the upcoming Ramadan.”
He added that Mais has appointed various collection agents to streamline the fidyah collection process, particularly in Selangor.
These include the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), Malaysia E-Government (MYEG), Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, As-Salihin Trustee Berhad, and Rakyat Trustee Berhad.
Additionally, Mais has introduced a fidyah calculator on its digital platform, making it easier for individuals to pay their fidyah online via the official portal at www.mais.gov.my.
Fidyah payments can also be made through Mais fidyah collection agents, such as LZS, which offers both over-the-counter and online payment options.
