FLYsiswa subsidy increase expected to benefit 60,000 students — Transport Ministry

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 12 — The rate increase in the FLYsiswa flight ticket purchase subsidy initiative from RM300 to RM400 per person starting January 1 next year is expected to benefit about 60,000 students using domestic routes involving Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

The Transport Ministry (MOT) said all students from public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges under the Higher Education Ministry as well as matriculation colleges and teacher training institutes under the Education Ministry can check their eligibility through the MOT website, starting from that date.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the subsidy increase for the initiative at the launch of the FLYsiswa Carnival and Madani Student Transportation Carnival at Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam today. FLYsiswa was first implemented last year.

The MOT added that since the implementation of FLYsiswa and until December 10, 74,500 students or 73 per cent of the total 102,150 students have benefitted from the flight ticket subsidy assistance.

This included 37,551 students or 75 per cent of 50,095 students in 2023 and 36,949 students or 71 per cent of all 52,055 students until December 10 who have redeemed their respective digital vouchers with national airlines.

FLYsiswa is a manifestation of the Unity Government in ensuring that the cost of living issue is addressed in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani and strengthening the relationship between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, Sarawak, as well as Labuan.
