KKR orders state, local authorities to repair roads within 24 hours

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — State and municipal authorities must follow the standard operating procedure set by the Works Ministry (KKR) to repair damaged federal roads within 24 hours.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said agencies tasked with repairing paths other than federal roads, such as state and municipal routes under the jurisdiction of state Public Works Departments (JKR) and local authorities, are not following ministry procedure.

“It is our hope that the public will not encounter difficulties, such as in Johor where someone sued a municipal concessionaire for RM720,000 for injuries suffered to their head, body, arms and legs when their motorcycle hit a pothole.

“The concessionaire was ordered by the court to pay restitution, so it serves as a reminder to us to take care of roads … quickly, carefully and properly,” he said during his speech at the KKR Media Night cum Construction Industry Development Board Media Awards 2024 here last night.

He added that the people can file road-related complaints on the MYJalan app, which was launched over a year ago.
