SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — Newly elected Selangor DAP chairman Ng Sze Han has pledged to continue the legacy of unity and leadership established by his predecessor, Gobind Singh Deo, as he assumes leadership of the state party chapter this week.
Ng expressed his admiration for Gobind’s ability to bring together diverse members across the party, saying such qualities will be his guiding principles as he takes on the chairmanship.
"I have big shoes to fill. On behalf of the newly elected state committee, we hope we will measure up to the good works done by Gobind for Selangor DAP,” he said in a series of tweets today.
"For many years, Gobind played the role of a peacemaker in Selangor, bringing different groups of members together,” he added.
Ng, who is the state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility, praised Gobind's exceptional ability to foster dialogue among party members despite their differences.
"No matter how diverse they are, Gobind has the ability to persuade people to sit down together and talk," he said.
"This is something most admirable which I want to emulate."
Ng said Gobind's leadership proved crucial during a transformative period for Selangor DAP, particularly as the party adapted to the unity government framework within Pakatan Harapan.
He also applauded Gobind's compassionate leadership style, specifically mentioning his steadfast support for the late Hulu Selangor assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong during her battle with cancer, describing him as "a man who honours veterans".
Acknowledging the substantial responsibilities ahead, Ng expressed both humility and determination, adding that he remains confident in Gobind's continued guidance and support.
Yesterday, Ng was elected as Selangor DAP chairman for the 2024-2027 term. He was chosen from among the 15 newly-elected executive committee members during an election held in conjunction with the state party convention.
He was state party secretary last term.
Klang MP V. Ganabatirau was elected deputy chairman, while Sekinchan assemblyman and state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, along with Ean Yong Hian Wah, are now vice-chairmen.
Gobind failed to make the list of the final 15 executive committee members.
