Wisma Putra acknowledges report of MyKad, driver's licence found in Ukraine

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — The Foreign Affairs Ministry (Wisma Putra) has taken note of a report stating that a Malaysian identity card (MyKad) and a Malaysian driving licence had been found in Levadne, Zaporizhia, in Ukraine.

It said it cannot confirm the authenticity of the information at this time.

“This information has also been forwarded to the relevant authorities for verification.

“We respectfully request that the media and the public refrain from making any speculations,” Wisma Putra said in a statement today.

It also advised Malaysians to exercise caution and ensure their own safety when abroad.

"The safety of Malaysians abroad is the responsibility of each individual.

"While the Malaysian Representative Office (Perwakilan) is always prepared to provide consular assistance to Malaysians in need, it is essential for all Malaysians to exercise caution and ensure their own safety," Wisma Putra said.

Previously, an image showing a MyKad and Malaysian driving licence allegedly found on a battlefield between Ukraine and Russia went viral, and a report claimed the documents were discovered following the success of Russian forces in capturing a Ukrainian military stronghold in Levadne, Zaporizhia.
