SUBANG JAYA, Oct 9 — The state government aims to launch a policy for the creative industry next year, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said the policy is needed to ensure the creative arts sector has clear direction, especially towards contributing to Selangor’s economy.

“We want to draft a policy as a creative arts economy action plan. This is because there is none for the state; only a central one.

“I want to ensure that we in Selangor at least have a guide. We will document views and escalate proposals to the state government, and format a policy,” he said at a focus group discussion with around 100 creative industry representatives at Sunway Resort Hotel here today.

The programme, organised by Selangor Youth Community and Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Social Science Studies Institute, covered various matters such as opportunities and challenges in the creative economy sector.

Najwan said he will present results of the discussion to the state government to be considered in the 2025 Selangor State Budget.

“We will make this platform one of our objectives. After hearing this, we will bring it to the Menteri Besar about needs we can coordinate in the future,” he said.

In the 2024 Selangor State Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an RM4.8 million allocation for creative economy entrepreneurs and its industry.
