BAM sets free entry to Malaysia Super 100, rallies support for backup players

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) hopes free entry into the Malaysia Super 100 next week will encourage badminton enthusiasts to fill Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara and show their support for the national backup players.

BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh said the tournament is crucial for backup players to prove their mettle and accumulate as many points as possible to elevate their world rankings.

“This is the second time we are organising such a tournament, and preparations are on schedule. We have decided not to sell tickets, allowing free entry to encourage as many supporters as possible to come and watch our players,” he said in an audio message shared by BAM with the media today.

Among the backup players competing in the tournament are two men’s singles players — Justin Hoh and Eogene Ewe — as well as two women’s singles shuttlers – K. Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching, he said.

In the meantime, Goh said the response from other international shuttlers has been promising so far, with around 340 players from 20 countries set to compete, including former world number one men’s singles player Kidambi Srikanth from India.
