SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — The Selangor contingent yesterday finished Day 1 of the Para Malaysian Games (Sukma) in the top three with five gold, four silver and seven bronze.
The gold medals were won in the women’s 100m breaststroke, women’s 100m backstroke, mixed 4x100m freestyle, men’s 100m T13 sprint, and men’s 100m T12 sprint.
Selangor athletes earned silver in the men’s 100m T47 sprint, women’s 100m T11/T12 sprint, men’s discus throw, and men’s javelin throw.
Meanwhile, the state won bronze in the men’s T37 1,500m race, men’s 100m T46 sprint, men’s 100m T45 sprint, women’s discus throw, men’s javelin throw, women’s 100m freestyle, and men’s 100m backstroke.
Selangor is aiming for a top three finish overall with a target of 82 medals — 29 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze — at the biennial event that opened yesterday and will end September 28.
The state contingent is participating in all 10 Para Sukma events, including badminton, swimming, archery, ping pong, and powerlifting, and hopes for gold in each one.
The Selangor people’s eyes are on the state’s 104 athletes participating in the Para Sukma 2024 in Sarawak, who are assisted by 56 coaches, managers, and escorts.
