AMPANG JAYA, Aug 31 — The Orang Asli community will continue to receive attention from the Selangor government, including access to the Sagong Tasi scholarship, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the educational assistance is not limited to university students but is also available to secondary schoolers.

"Those entering vocational training institutions like the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) and Giatmara can also apply.

"The state government's policy is to ensure that everyone’s development and welfare are safeguarded. We want the people of Selangor to receive the best possible care and support," he said.

He made these remarks in his speech at the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples celebration and health carnival at the Kemensah Orang Asli Village, here, today.

Amirudin also noted that RM1 million was allocated last year to initiate the process to gazette Orang Asli villages across the state.

However, he clarified that the gazetting process for the Kemensah village has yet to be completed, as the area involves forest reserves.

"This area is close to a geopark that needs to be registered at the international level. As such, many regulations need to be followed, and it will take time to gazette it.

"But we assure you that residents here will not be evicted, and they can continue living here because they have been here for a long time. We just need to enhance the facilities," he added.

In this year's budget, the Selangor government allocated RM2.5 million for the Orang Asli community, the highest amount in the state’s history.
