Halal ecosystem: Japan keen to learn from Selangor

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — Selangor has been invited to share its expertise in the halal industry ecosystem in Nagoya, Japan next month, particularly in logistics services management and halal certification.

State executive councillor for halal industry Dr Fahmi Ngah said Japan has expressed interest in receiving training from Selangor due to the more advanced nature of the halal ecosystem in the state as well as in Malaysia.

“In September, representatives from the Halal International Selangor (HIS) Toyyiba Sdn Bhd will fly to Japan to provide training, sharing extensive knowledge on various aspects of the halal ecosystem, with a particular focus on logistics services.

“It involves a major consulting firm in Japan, so we're seizing this opportunity to expand our network and share insights on the halal ecosystem, certification processes and more.

“This is as the halal standards set by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) are globally recognised," he told Media Selangor.

Fahmi said this development is a result of his working visit to Japan last month, where he, along with the Selangor delegation, attended the Techno Frontier 2024 Conference, Japan's largest event showcasing cutting-edge manufacturing automation technology.

"I also had the opportunity to meet with several halal accreditation bodies in Japan and extended an invitation for them to attend the Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) 2024 in Kuala Lumpur," he said.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said efforts are in full swing to promote Selhac 2024, with plans to visit Vietnam next month and Turkey in October to attract international agencies to participate in the conference.

"Our promotional activities are not limited to Southeast Asia but extend to other regions as well, in our bid to secure broader participation," he added.

Previously, Fahmi had said that Selhac 2024, scheduled to take place from October 16 to 19, is targeting RM61 million in potential transaction value, marking a 10 per cent increase compared to last year.

The event is expected to attract participation from 150 companies and is being organised as part of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The upcoming third edition of Selhac will be themed ‘Energising the Halal Ecosystem’.
