SHAH ALAM, July 27 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has extended condolences to the family of former housing and local government minister Tun Michael Chen Wing Sum, who passed away yesterday.
Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also conveyed her condolences.
According to a post on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, His Royal Highness described the deceased, who was also a former MCA deputy president, as a politician who was committed to serving the people.
“In recognition of his services, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah conferred the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (D.P.M.S) upon him in 1977,” it said.
Yesterday, MCA president Datuk Wee Ka Siong confirmed that Chen had died at the age of 92.
He said the deceased had played an important role in boosting the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and China through ‘Diplomasi Ping Pong’, which further enhanced cooperation and trade between both countries.
