Paris 2024: Nur Aisyah recovered, ready for action

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — National road racing cyclist Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir has fully recovered and is ready to compete in the Paris Olympics after her accident during a competition in Belgium on June 16.

The national road cycling team's manager Norazman Abu Samah said Aisyah had sustained minor injuries to her shoulder and throat.

"Her coach Amir Mustafa Rusli informed us about the accident. She has now fully recovered, is undergoing training, and has resumed racing as usual," he told Bernama, adding that Aisyah’s bicycle was also damaged during the accident.

However, Norazman expressed relief that the damaged bicycle was a spare and not the one the cyclist would be using at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“We are grateful because the main bicycle that will be used in the Olympics is in good condition.

"I was informed that the damaged bicycle couldn't be repaired in time for the Olympics. But, Alhamdulillah, she has secured sponsorship for a new bicycle," he said.

The Kemaman-born athlete is set to make history as the first Malaysian female road racing cyclist to compete on the Olympic stage after the Malaysian National Cycling Federation awarded her a slot for Paris 2024.
