IPOH, May 31 — Ten people, including the driver, were injured when their express bus crashed into the back of a tanker lorry at Kilometre 290.9 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound early today.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they received information regarding the incident at 5.30am.
"All 10 victims, aged between 13 and 60, who suffered serious and minor injuries were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
"However, 16 others, including the 30-year-old lorry driver, escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement.
Zainal said a preliminary investigation found that the accident occurred when the 38-year-old bus driver, who was ferrying 25 passengers from Sungai Nibong, Penang, to Kuala Lumpur, lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the back of the cement-laden tanker lorry.
The bus driver has 15 traffic summonses, including two for traffic collisions, while a check of the bus record found that it has 38 summonses.
The case is being investigated under Section (43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
