India's palm oil imports drop 36 pct in February

NEW DELHI, March 14 — India’s palm oil imports dropped 36 per cent in February as the country’s overall edible oil imports declined for the second straight month.

It imported 497,824 tonnes of palm oil last month compared with 782,983 tonnes in January, according to data released by the industry group Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA).

India's imports from Malaysia during the month were 192,499 tonnes, made up of 182,499 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO), 7,500 tonnes of RBD palm olein and 2,500 tonnes of crude palm kernel oil (CPKO).

In January, India imported 283,123 tonnes of CPO, 15,785 tonnes of RBD palmolein and 5,430 tonnes of CPKO from Malaysia.

The overall Indian edible oil imports in February totalled 967,852 tonnes, representing a decline of approximately 19 per cent from January.
