Exco to spend the night with residents to better understand plights

SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — What better way to understand issues confronted by residents of low-cost apartments than to immerse oneself in their experiences?

That is exactly the approach of state executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah, as he announced plans to spend the night in selected locations across the state to gain firsthand insight into some of the problems plaguing the community.

This will be part of the Rewang Komuniti (community gathering) initiative, a state programme aiming to rekindle the communal spirit and cooperation in urban areas.

He said the programme would kickstart this Saturday (February 24) in Pandan Indah, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and will be officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“I will celebrate it and spend the night there as I want to understand how they live,” he told the press after officiating the Ownership Mechanism for State Controlled Properties seminar at the State Secretariat Building yesterday.

The state government has also agreed to allocate RM500,000 for the Rewang Komuniti initiative, which will be held in five locations this year.

Each community outreach programme is estimated to cost between RM70,000 and RM100,000, encompassing various activities, including cattle slaughtering, community sports, and the exhibition of state initiatives.

Borhan said personnel from state agencies would also be setting up counters to provide various assistance, including guidance on preserving old birth and marriage certificates.

“We will visit more low-cost apartments after (Pandan Indah), targeting five locations in total,” he said, adding that Selayang, Subang Jaya, Kajang, and Hulu Langat have been identified as the most likely destinations.

Last month, Borhan said the Rewang Komuniti programme involving several state agencies would help the state government disseminate information related to initiatives provided by the administration.
