SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — The odour levels in Sungai Semenyih remain normal after pollution was detected near the Nilai R&R area last night, says the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).

In a Facebook post today, the state agency said investigations carried out with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd and relevant state border authorities revealed the source of the abnormal odour originated from a premise located in an industrial area outside of Selangor, to which the authorities have conducted mitigating measures to prevent further pollution.

“The authorities have instructed the relevant premise to cease the discharge flow. We have assisted in controlling (the odour) at the premise by placing activated carbon (AC) to neutralise the odour at the final discharge point and have also taken samples for further analysis and action.

“Static monitoring conducted throughout the night until 7am this morning at Sungai Semenyih saw normal odour readings in the river flow, and the situation is under control,” it said.

As an added measure, Luas also conducted follow-up checks and verifications in the Nilai R&R area and Sungai Buah this morning to ensure no further potential pollution risks enter Sungai Buah and subsequently into Sungai Semenyih.

Last night, the odour pollution readings taken at the Jenderam Hilir intake recorded 0 Threshold Odour Number (TON) following an abnormal odour detected at Sungai Buah and Sungai Semenyih.
