Education Ministry monitors iDME system to ensure optimal performance

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 19 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) is consistently monitoring the Identity Management System (iDME) hourly to ensure its optimal performance, said its minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Speaking at a press conference after attending MOE’s New Year message ceremony today, she said they are also working to improve the system from time to time to facilitate teachers in the student assessment process.

“Our monitoring is very strict, and improvements are made as needed. This thorough monitoring is essential as we recognise that our teachers and clients rely extensively on iDME for assessing our children,” Fadhlina said.

Yesterday, the media reported that the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has requested MOE reconsider iDME’s usage, proposing a preliminary test before issuing directives to teachers.

Regarding calls from various quarters for a review of the Dual Language Programme (DLP) guidelines, she said such issues should not arise as its implementation aligns with MOE’s aspiration to uphold the Malay language and strengthen the command of the English language.

“Every time we are asked, we maintained our our decision... there are guidelines that need to be adhered to,” Fadhlina said.

The DLP was first introduced in 2016 under the Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening the Command of English Language (MBMMBI) policy.

Its purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their access to diverse fields of knowledge, fostering global competitiveness and improving employability in the job market.
