SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The Selangor Mobility Lab, which will be developed by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), is described as a strategic move to empower the electric vehicle (EV) sector in the state.

Its chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the lab will be created under the state’s mobility portfolio, which is headed by executive councillor Ng Sze Han.

“The EV industry ecosystem is progressing from all directions; today, it’s not just about selling EVs but also the nurturing of talents in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) technology,” he told Selangorkini

“This is because the final goal for EV is to have autonomous driving, which requires AI as the main driver.”

Yong added that the demand for charging facilities and the battery industry is set to attract more investments and stimulate the state’s manufacturing sector.

“We must view AI, EVs like cars, vans, motorcycles, ships and buses, as well as charging facilities as being able to ensure the growth of the EV industry, subsequently helping us in our transition to a low-carbon lifestyle.”

Meanwhile, Yong said Selangor currently has 386 units of charging stations, adding that a total of 1,000 stations are targeted to be installed under the First Selangor Plan.
