Ministry allocates RM53mln to Tuanku Muhriz Hospital under 12MP

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — The Higher Education Ministry (KPT) has allocated RM53 million to  Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) to further improve its medical treatment facilities.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the allocation aims to replace obsolete equipment in the hospital's radiology, operation theatre, endoscopy and radiotherapy and oncology services division.

He said that of the total, RM9.2 million is for procuring two medical equipment, namely the Biplace Angiography in the Radiology Department and the Fluoroscopy machine in the Endoscopy Centre, which utilises Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

"I am confident that this big allocation will enable the use of the latest and most advanced medical equipment and, thus, improve the level and quality of treatment services at this hospital.

"As a teaching hospital that has been operating for 26 years, surely various amenities, facilities and equipment used all these while need upgrading, replacement and renewal.”

His speech was read out by the ministry's deputy secretary-general (Management and Development) Datuk Dr Mohd Zabri Yusoff.

Mohamed Khaled said the ministry was happy to support plans to improve the hospital's capability through additional sophisticated equipment, with some aimed at replacing those that have become obsolete.

"We are aware that this is a necessity. More so, for the ministry, the quality of the medical education ecosystem and the efficiency of the services that university teaching hospitals offer to the public can never be compromised.”
