PETALING JAYA, Sept 25 — The First Asia Pacific Youth Folklore Festival 2023, hosted by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), is in line with the state government’s efforts to encourage self-cultivation through art and culture among the younger generation.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the programme is designed to foster a love for art and culture in the community.

“This is the most essential element of the festival that we need to embrace and set as a requirement in all aspects of development, including physical, economic, social and environmental.

“The state government and its agencies at the ministerial level will continue to implement programmes related to arts, culture and national heritage,” she said at the festival’s closing ceremony at MBPJ, here, last night.

Also present was Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir.

Anfaal stated that setting up a united nation is important to maintain harmony, particularly in light of the world’s ethnic diversity.

“Despite differences in names, religions and cultures, over several generations, we have proven that respect, mutual trust, tolerance, and consensus are the secrets to the success and wealth we currently benefit from.

“I urge everyone to work together with the government to create a generation that upholds traditional culture, as this shapes the nation’s sovereignty,” she said.

Last night, more than 5,000 people came out to enjoy the Folklore Concert, a component of the festival, which featured a lineup of several local performers such as Hattan, Ziana Zain, Ella, Awie, and Fredo Flybaits.

Visitors were also charmed by cultural performances from 12 different nations., including Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Iran, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Timor Leste, and Lithuania.

MBPJ represented Malaysia to host the festival themed ‘Menghayati Budaya dan Warisan’ (Embracing Culture and Heritage), held from September 21 to 26.

The programme includes several captivating events, including international cultural performances, art career seminars, and the PJ International Art Conference 2023.
