SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — The frequency of trains for the Kelana Jaya LRT line during peak hours will be reduced to three minutes by next year, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said this will be achieved once all 27 new trains procured by the government under the RM1.72 billion Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicle (KLAV27) project are delivered, Berita Harian reported.

Presently, the frequency during peak hours is at 3.8 minutes.

"Under the project, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Rapid Rail will receive 27 new trains, with the first batch delivered in stages beginning September 2020," he told reporters after witnessing the KLAV27 train operation at the Universiti LRT station in Kuala Lumpur today.

"So far, we have received 11 trains, with remaining to be delivered between this month and December next year," he said, adding that at present, a total of 44 trains are in operation.

Loke said the additional trains would ensure that passenger load can be maintained at the desired 100 per cent capacity during peak hours, compared to up to 125 per cent presently.

This, he said, will ensure the comfort of passengers, particularly considering the Kelana Jaya line is the busiest in the country.

"I'm also confident that the effort taken by the government will see the number of daily passengers increased from 250,000 to 300,000."

Loke added that the additional trains would also minimise technical issues that are frequently occurring currently, as maintenance and improvement works will be done more regularly.
