Athlete caught doping ignores Adamas show-cause letter

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — The athlete who failed a doping test at the Malaysian Athletics Federation Track and Field Championships last February has chosen not to respond to a show-cause letter by the Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (Adamas) when the deadline expired today.

Its director Azura Abidin said the athlete has decided not to challenge the B sample test, and instead opted to have the hearing process conducted on him.

The agency is now actively preparing for the hearing by examining the existing evidence but did not disclose the hearing date.

“After the hearing, we will get all the information from the appointed hearing committee members. Then we will give this athlete some time for the panel to sit down and make a decision, which usually takes a month.

“If found guilty, the athlete has the right to appeal,” she told reporters after the Malaysian Law International Conference, earlier today.

The programme was also attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who shared her views on sports policy, governance and regulations.

Last June, Adamas announced a doping incident at the competition held at the National Sports Council Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
