SHAH ALAM, July 3 — Kota Anggerik incumbent assemblyman Najwan Halimi is confident Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) will retain the seat in the coming state election, owing to the various initiatives that have been implemented there over the years.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) lawmaker also expressed his readiness to defend the constituency if he is given the mandate by the party.
He added that he has been made to understand the Shah Alam Keadilan branch has already nominated his name as its choice of candidate for the state polls.
"I'm always prepared should I be entrusted to defend the seat, and I am confident Harapan will retain Kota Anggerik," he said during a programme in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha at Surau Raudhah Al-Muttaqin, Seksyen 4, here, yesterday.
Commenting further, Najwan, who made his electoral debut in Kota Anggerik in the 2018 General Election, said the various initiatives which he introduced throughout the past term have now produced results.
"It may be too much to list one by one, but what I can conclude is that, among our successes include resolving issues related to housing, security and infrastructure in Shah Alam.
"In fact, I have also succeeded in encouraging residents to set up associations as most housing areas here do not have one. This makes it difficult to carry out activities or distribute aid."
Najwan said with the establishment of these associations, it makes it easier for his team to deal with residents on various matters.
Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are set to face state elections within the next few weeks, following the dissolution of their respective legislative assemblies.
The Election Commission said today it will hold a special meeting on Wednesday (July 5) to discuss and determine the important dates for the state polls.
