Kemas allocates RM18.9 mln for rural entrepreneur development

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 23 — The Community Development Department (Kemas) has allocated RM18.9 million this year for the development of rural entrepreneurs nationwide.

Its director-general Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi said this covers the implementation of various programmes, as well as courses and equipment assistance, to train entrepreneurs at the village level.

The five focus areas of Kemas include sewing, computer programmes, handicrafts, and culinary.

“At Kemas, we focus on producing pioneering entrepreneurs. For those who just want to start a business, we help with equipment and so on.

“We have short-term and long-term courses... even those who do not have a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) can join our programmes such as a computer course that reaches level two of the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM),” he said when met at the Jom Masuk Kampung programme in Kampung Pulau Manis, earlier today.

The department has also set a target to produce 1,500 entrepreneurs a year through various entrepreneurship programmes, including Quick Win Kemas.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Kamal said Terengganu is the third location for Jom Masuk Kampung, after the Federal Territories, Selangor, and Perlis.

The programme, which involves all levels of society, including community leaders, government agencies and people from the grassroots, is always well received and successfully unites the local community.

"Kemas allocated RM700,000 for the organisation of the Jom Masuk Kampung programme in 14 states.

InsyaAllah, we will hold the programme in all 14 states this year,” he said.
