SHAH ALAM, June 21 — The state government's free health screening programme Selangor Saring will proceed as usual in the near future, despite the dissolution of the legislative assembly this Friday.
Executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said although it would not involve the respective state assemblymen, as is the usual practice, the initiative will carry on with the cooperation of non-governmental organisations and joint management bodies.
"Previously, the programme was conducted based on the request of the assemblymen, but because the state legislative assembly will dissolve (on Friday), Selcare will continue with other quarters.
"This programme is necessary due to the benefits it has for the community. As such, we urge the public to make full use of this opportunity by getting your free health screening," she said when contacted.
Selangor Saring was introduced last year to help the public identify diseases at an early stage, particularly those with family history, obesity and unhealthy lifestyle.
It involves an allocation of RM3.4 million fully sponsored by the state government.
Participants are able to undergo various tests, including urine, eye, blood, as well as cervical, breast and prostate cancers.
The scheme was improved this year with the addition of further free services, including dental and ear checkups, and physiotherapy sessions.
