KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 – Cloud technologies and data centres play a big part in advancing the Digital Malaysia initiative, Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil said.
The minister said cloud technologies and data centres are among the key building blocks to achieve a 25.5 per cent digital economy contribution to the gross domestic product by 2025.
“This ministry has championed a Cloud-First Policy and seen growing cloud adoption by the public sector.
“Investors will also find we are committed to providing reasonable tax incentives and security infrastructure, green energy facilities and locations for data centres,” he said in his keynote address at the Invest Malaysia Series 2 conference themed “Digital Malaysia: Tomorrow’s Infrastructure, Today” here today.
Fahmi said Malaysia has one of the most developed data centre markets in Southeast Asia.
“You would no doubt be aware of the announcements of large investments made by global companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Bridge Data Centres, Keppel Data Centres, Google and Alibaba.
“Market analyst organisation Arizton estimated its value to rise to US$1.57 billion (US$1=RM4.59) by 2027,” he said.
He said it is also important to see 5G and cloud technologies within the context of the broader National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative, connecting all Malaysians to the promise of the digital economy as a key driver that would help bring equitable progress.
