KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, who received the 2023 International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award recently, is determined to make Malaysia a disabled-friendly country.
She said this would require the cooperation of all parties including media practitioners who can play a role by promoting understanding about the seven categories of people with disabilities in efforts to build a more inclusive nation.
There are still many things that needed to be highlighted for the group, including special housing and the setting up of early intervention and autism centres.
"I also hope that all parties can work together to make Malaysia a disabled-friendly country...so that one day we will be able to bring in disabled tourists from abroad," Ras Adiba told reporters at the Parliament lobby, earlier today.
She was one of the 11 recipients of the IWOC Award by the United States Embassy in Malaysia.
Other recipients include Dr Zakira Hekmat from Afghanistan, Alba Rueda (Argentina) and Donis Rios (Costa Rica).
Commenting on the award, Ras Adiba said it felt like a dream, adding that she cannot forget the experience of interacting with and meeting great women from other countries.
"I really hope that with this award, I will continue to support and help inspire those out there, especially the younger generation," she added.
