Selhac 2023: Abidin Hamid receives Halal Industry Figure award

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — A total of three halal industry players receive recognition during the Appreciation Dinner in conjunction with the 2023 Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) last night.

The Halal Industry Leader award was given to Abidin Hamid who is active in the Halal Certification Committee of the Selangor Department of Islamic Religion (Jais).

Recognition was also giver to cordial drinks and juice manufacturer Freshie (M) Sdn Bhd who received the Halal Loyalty Award, while the Halal Committed Award was given to personal care product manufacturer Wipro Unza (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The award was presented by state executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and was witnessed by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The ceremony which took place at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) was also attended by Chief Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporate) or MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

The programme was coloured with fashion shows from several rising fashion designers including Masrina Abdullah, Jay Kumar, Maswira Majid, Ghadeez and Kalima.

Themed 'Selangor, International Halal Gateway', the second edition of Selhac which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday morning.

The programme successfully brought together about 200 exhibitors from home and abroad including Bangladesh, Australia, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Vietnam and Canada.

Exhibitors involved the likes of MBI, Bank Islam, Maybank Islamic Berhad, Majlis Agama Islam Selangor, Farm Fresh Malaysia, Yayasan Hijrah Selangor and Sate Kajang Hj Samuri.

The three-day event until this Sunday is open from 9am to 5pm and aims to generate business value of RM50 million in addition to attracting over 8,000 visitors.

Six components will be highlighted throughout the conference including business forums, Islamic finance, exhibitions, business matching, halal supply chain and digital marketing.

Selhac was first organised in March last year at the Shah Alam Convention Center (SACC) with the participation of more than 200 exhibitors and recorded transactions of RM37.73 million.
