KUALA LANGAT, March 6 — Some 350,000 people in Selangor have received the Covid-19 vaccines that were provided for free by the state government since 2021, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Menteri Besar said that 700,000 out of the total 900,000 vaccines bought using Tabung Amanah Warisan Negeri (state trust fund) were administered to the people via the Selangor Vaccination (Selvax) programme.
“The year 2021 was very challenging as we had to use the state reserves to buy our own vaccines even though the Federal government had allocated funds for it.
“We were the only state in Malaysia that could afford to purchase the vaccines and offer it to the people for free,” he said in a speech at the Jelajah Kita Selangor Penyayang roadshow in Kuala Langat at Banting Waterfront, here yesterday.
Beginning February 7, the state government has continued administering the Covid-19 booster shots for free in cooperation with the 15 Selcare Clinics and The KL Clinics across the state.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the state administration introduced the Selvax programme to expedite the vaccination process for the people in the state and continued with the Selvax Booster programme to administer booster doses.
State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud previously stated that Selangor has an adequate supply of Covid-19 vaccine boosters, especially Sinovac.
