MPKL demolishes illegal huts used as store, breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) demolished illegal huts that were used as storage places for used goods at Taman Langat Murni yesterday.

The local authority said that the huts have affected the scenery of the surrounding area, in addition to becoming a breeding ground for poisonous animals and Aedes mosquitoes.

“This operation is done for the safety of the residents of the area,” it said in a Facebook post.

MPKL added that the act of erecting such huts or stores is wrong under Section 81(e), Act 171, Local Government Act 1976.

“Erecting any huts or sheds, whether used as a place of residence or for any other purposes, can become a nuisance due to the way in which the huts or sheds are accumulated, the lack of proper drainage systems, or the impracticality of cleaning work,” it said.

The operation to clear the illegal spaces were carried out by 34 MPKL officers, three from the Kuala Langat District and Land Office as well as two from the Kuala Langat District Health Office.

A total of two roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) barrels and two MPKL pickup trucks have been utilised for this cleaning purpose.
