Incentives for affordable homes boost property development in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Nov 23 — The incentives to encourage the development of affordable homes, which were introduced by the state government for the Rumah Harapan and Rumah Idaman projects, have boosted property development in Selangor, says Rodziah Ismail.

The state executive councillor for housing said as of now, 109,272 houses under the category have been approved and the projects are expected to be completed in stages by 2026.

“The policy has benefited small and medium entrepreneurs, particularly in the construction and service sectors. At the same time, it has managed to create an economic value of RM27 billion,” she said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here today.

Rodziah was answering a query from Sijangkang state assemblyman Mohd Yunus Hairi on the state government’s policy regarding the rising cost of construction materials.

The Batu Tiga state assemblyman said the 100 per cent development charge exemption incentives were also given to sector players to encourage the construction of houses this year.

Meanwhile, Rodziah said as of October 1, the State Executive Council has approved 40 Rumah SelangorKu type A projects involving 10,567 units.

“The projects are still in the process of getting their development plans approved by the local authorities,” she said.
