TNB makes extensive preparations to face monsoon season

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has made extensive preparations for the monsoon season, which includes improvements to critical infrastructure in flood risk areas.

TNB chief distribution network officer, Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood, said that all hydroelectric dams were in good condition to continue to function as flood mitigation, including by gradually lowering the water level of the dams since July.

TNB has also built retaining walls for the drainage system at the entrance of the main intake substation (PMU), and raised the level of the equipment platform, while mobile and portable generators, and critical equipment such as boats, satellite phones and floodlights have been placed at strategic locations.

“Other measures include changing the location and elevating transmission towers to ensure that there is no risk of towers falling,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, TNB's operation rooms in the flood-affected states will be activated to monitor the situation and provide the latest information on the power supply as soon as a state of emergency is required.

“If a substation is flooded, the operations have to be suspended, reconnection will only be carried out by TNB after the situation is safe,” he added.
