SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The Selangor government should set aside a specific allocation that caters to the workers in the state in its upcoming 2023 budget, says the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC).

Its vice president Shatiri Mansor said this would reflect how the state administration values the workers in Selangor that is high in number.

“Compared to other states, Selangor has many labour unions. I hope that some allocation would be given to the MTUC so that we could help in conducting training programmes and health initiatives,” he said.

During a recent talk show programme on SelangorTV,  Shatiri, who is also the Kota Damansara state assemblyman, mentioned that with a minimum allocation of RM500,000 would be able to be used for various activities and programmes for the workers in the state.

The Selangor budget is expected to be tabled in October.

Meanwhile, he said that the Selangor government should also take lead in supporting the workers as many of them are struggling with the rising cost of living.

“I believe that the state government can set the minimum wage of RM1,600 as I had previously debated on the First Selangor Plan at the state legislative assembly sitting,” he said.
