Sidec ready to help, mentor start-ups in overcoming challenges

PETALING JAYA, Sept 18 — The Selangor government is always prepared to assist start-up companies in overcoming various obstacles in the current business environment, says Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

The state executive councillor for industry and trade said that in addition to facing funding issues, start-up companies often struggle to expand sales and do not receive the needed guidance.

"Therefore, the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) has a role to play in helping the local start-ups develop the necessary skills and networking.

“That is why we organise programmes such as the Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) 2022, which focuses on developing skills to support start-up businesses,” he said in his speech during the launch of the 2022 SAP Demo Day at the One World Hotel, here yesterday.

Also present was Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

Five of the top 20 start-ups who participated in the programme took home cash prizes totalling RM50,000 and Amazon Web Services (AWS) credits worth US$5,000.

The participants were evaluated by a panel of judges for 70 per cent of the score, while the start-up companies' appearance and performance throughout the three-month programme contributed to the remaining score.
