Education Ministry to consider implementing electrical wiring assessment in schools

TANJUNG MALIM, Aug 3 — The Education Ministry will study taking proactive and appropriate measures to implement the assessment of electrical wiring in schools nationwide.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the move was seen as important in ensuring the safety level in schools.

"Any old building that needs attention should be reported by the school and at the same time, we will have to come out with a mechanism to ensure that we can run it regularly.

"No matter what, we will always ensure that safety is always our priority," he said when met by reporters at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Muallim District Schools Open Hall at SMK Slim River in Slim River here today.

He was commenting on an incident at the Dato' Haji Abu Hassan Haji Said men's dormitory of the National Religious Secondary School (SMKA) in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan that was 80 per cent destroyed in a fire caused by an electrical wiring problem last Sunday.

Earlier, a total of RM394,000 was announced at the ceremony for the construction of the hall which is expected to be fully completed this November.
