SOLO, Aug 2 — National swimmers continued their successful medal hunt at Jatidiri Swimming Centre in Semarang during the 11th Asean Para Games, with another one gold and two silver harvest today.
Even though there were only two swimmers participating in the men’s 50m breaststroke SB14 (intellectual impairment), it did not deter Mohd Adib Iqbal Abdullah to splash for a new Games record in 33.550 seconds to claim the gold while sending back Thailand’s Master Parami Chaysri (37.570s) empty handed.
The previous record of 33.61s was set by Indonesian Irfan Septiana, in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Games.
Meanwhile, Paralympian Muhammad Nur Syaiful Zulkafli secured silver in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 (physical impairment) after recording three minutes and 0.620 seconds, while Thailand’s Phuchit Aingchaiyaphum emerged winner clocking 2:57.89s.
Another Malaysian in the race, Zy Lee Kher (03:02.180s) had to return home without medal as only three swimmers participated.
Another silver medal for the Malaysian camp was contributed by Muhd Imaan Aiman Muhd Redzuan in the men’s 100m backstroke S14.
Philippines’ Ariel Joseph Alegarbes (1:03.010s) claimed the gold, while Chuvong Jirachot (1:11.680s) settled for bronze.
Malaysia had splashed to a six gold and a silver collection at the opening day, yesterday, while more medals are expected to be delivered tomorrow.
